Blizzard Download: What You Need to Know Before You Start Playing

(Keep in mind that freebies tend to melt the Interwebs, so don't be surprised if you encounter a download delay or other issue. This is not, to my knowledge, a time-limited offer, so you should be able to get it at some point, even if you have difficulty initially.)

Blizzard Download

Blizzard Downloader (or Blizzard Background Downloader, Background Downloader, BackgroundDownloader.exe, and others named something-BKGND-downloader) is a combination BitTorrent/HTTP client used for Blizzard Entertainment's software products. It was first implemented with the MMORPG World of Warcraft. It is used to download the full game installer package, and periodic updates for the game. It is also used to download the trailers for The Burning Crusade, StarCraft II, and Diablo III. Early versions were based on the source code of the original BitTorrent client, though it is unclear what the source model is now. When a large update is issued, Blizzard Downloader is downloaded to the WoW directory and it fetches the update file, using TCP ports 3724 and 6881. Blizzard offers an individual client for each download they offer, instead of just a torrent file. Blizzard Downloader also runs in the background under the name of Background Downloader. While the downloader is running, the program also uploads parts of files over the internet to other users who need the same data. To pause a download in progress, simply close the downloader program (do not cancel the download first) and it should resume where it left off when you start the downloader again.

Sometime during the Cataclysm expansion, the downloader's look was updated to match the overall look of the expansion. Because the downloader is rarely seen standalone, most players won't notice it's new look. The downloader is now usually only called from the launcher, if set to run while the main game is running.

In patch 3.0.8, the look of the downloader was upgraded to match the launcher and made to look more specific to World of Warcraft. Previously, the window was much simpler with considerably less artistry. There were no obvious functional improvements, but the splash art could possibly change with each patch or for different product downloads (assuming it is still used for non- products).

On Windows PCs circa the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, many people had found out their Background Downloader would not execute and popup after WoW had been closed. This would prevent people from pre-downloading patches. The problem was fixed by deleting the file BackgroundDownloader.exe and running the repair program to download a new one.

The Blizzard Downloader bundle is actually a plain BitTorrent client that has at least one .torrent file inside. The .torrent can be opened by other BitTorrent clients giving the user greater control over how the download is handled.

5) Select the Enabled option. Under Configure automatic updating, select the second option Notify for download and auto install. Then click Apply > OK.

According to reports, internet congestion typically happens from 9 AM to 11 PM, when lots of people in your area and your home are using the internet at the same time. And your internet connection can become sluggish. Therefore, we would suggest you avoid downloads duing internet peak hours. Instead, you can let your game or updates download between 4 AM to 9 AM, when less people are online, so there is more bandwidth for individual users.

In Blackthorne (also known as Blackhawk), players traverse the world of Tuul as Kyle Vlaros, a man out to exact revenge and reclaim his throne. You can find Blackthorne by visiting the downloadable games section through a Battle.net account and scrolling to Classic Games.

Battle.net is a popular game launcher client and home to many blockbuster games, but sometimes, Battle.net takes forever to download a game. While there isn't much you can do if you have a weak connection, there are a few changes you can make within the Battle.net settings and Windows to increase the download speed.

The first thing you must do is allocate adequate bandwidth to the Battle.net app. You can do this by pausing other downloads running in the background and closing network-hogging applications. Also, ensure that streaming applications like Twitch are not running in the background.

If you're getting a comparatively lower download speed, check out our guide on how to improve your internet connection. If this helps improve your internet connection, try downloading games on Battle.net. But if there's no improvement in your connection, contact your internet service provider (ISP).

The next fix to try to download the latest network driver update. As it turns out, an outdated or corrupt network driver can cause various network issues, including the slow download speed in Battle.net.

Battle.net stores cache data to offer faster access. Sometimes, this cache folder can get corrupted and affect your download speed. You'll have to delete the content of this folder to solve the problem. Don't worry; deleting this folder will not affect your game data.

I'm on Windows 7. When I download Starcraft Anthology from the website and try to install it on my computer I get the error "This download is not Authorized" followed by "There was a problem authenticating your download. Please go to to start a new download."

I've tried Safe mode, and running it as administrator, and both at the same time. I tried downloading it in Safe Mode with Networking on Internet Explorer. I have tried redownloading the downloader. There's a timestamp encryption on it, so you can only use it the day you download it.

I have tried downloading it to a different folder. Both running the file from another folder, other than where it is currently, and extracting it to another folder than the one specified. I tried deleting the following registry key:

It was originally called the WoW Sneak Peek Downloader as a test program to download the 2001 ECTS Cinematic Trailer.[1] It would adopt the Blizzard Downloader name with the release of the Seasons of War trailer.

A new patch for a game released in 1998 won't do you much good if you no longer have StarCraft on your computer or access to your CDs. To go along with the new patch, Blizzard released StarCraft as a free download. You can get the Windows version here and the Mac version here. 2ff7e9595c
