Set in the late 80s, Bad Hair is a horror satire about a woman who gets a weave in order to get noticed in a career where image is everything. However, she quickly learns that beauty sometimes comes with a cost when her new hair gets a mind of its own.

In the mood for something scary? There's nothing quite like the fresh thrill of a great horror movie. That tingle that runs down your spine. The goosebumps that prick at your skin. The hard, cold thumping that hits your heart. Yet seriously scary is only one flavor of horror, a genre that welcomes pestering poltergeists and wicked witches alongside lovable zombies and tap-dancing monsters. Whatever kind of mood you're in, we've got a pick for you, right from Amazon Prime Video.

The library of Prime Video is vast but ever-changing, so we've scoured their stacks to curate a current collection sure to thrill, chill, and delight. Whether you want soul-scorching psychological thrillers, haunted house horror, creepy classics, modern masterpieces, or something as ghoulish as it is goofy, we've got you covered.

If you'd rather be kept up at night cackling instead of screaming, might we suggest Mel Brooks's classic horror movie parody? Brooks and his leading man, Gene Wilder, collaborated on a screenplay that found the funny in the Frankenstein of Mary Shelley. Pulling from the iconography of the Universal monster movies of early Hollywood, Brooks found fresh soil to plant plenty of absurd bits, from a fixation on pronunciation (Frahnken-STEEN!) to sexual innuendoes and a monstrously fun dance number. Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Khan, and Teri Garr commit fully, making every sequence electrifying fun.

When films fans want to find the scariest horror movies of all time, they typically go straight for the most visceral and graphic choices. But the best PG-13 horror movies not only deliver many of the same kind of jump scares and horrific monsters of R-rated movies, some of them are even counted as the most iconic examples of the genre.

Updated on October 31st, 2022 by Mark Birrell: Genuinely scary PG-13 movies aren't as rare as some may think they are, so much so that some film fans' favorite horror movies ever might have significantly lower ratings than they had assumed. The best PG-13 horror movies prove that terrifying scenes are the product of skillful direction and great acting, not gore and vulgarity.

One of the most criminally underrated horror-comedies ever has to be 1990's Arachnophobia. There are definite notes of Joe Dante in this creepy-crawly creature feature. If the title wasn't enough to give it away, this movie concerns a rather sinister spider species that overruns a sleepy little town.

The film is based on the real-life of Annelise Michel who was diagnosed with Epilepsy due to a series of visions and episodes. The family was not successful in the attempts to treat her, so they turned to the church for an exorcism that ended her life. The movie follows both a more traditionally horror-like narrative thread of the exorcism itself and a more thoughtful legal drama thread of the trial of the priest involved. When woven together, they make for a uniquely interesting approach to the genre.

Dealing with themes of chronic illness, both physical and psychological, it's proven to be a more conceptually complex story than it may initially seem for film fans, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming one of the most popular horror movies of recent years.

Much more a comedy movie than a horror movie in terms of tone, but pure horror in terms of setting and subject matter, The Final Girls sees a young woman, still emotionally processing the sudden death of her mother, sucked into an old 80s slasher movie that her mother starred in.

Adapted from a Stephen King short story, 1408 is one of the more underrated movies made from the author's work and delivers a huge amount of variety from what may initially seem like a very limited setting.

The Southern Gothic story follows a care nurse who takes work at a secluded former plantation in Louisiana to care for a man paralyzed by a stroke. A hidden room within the house reveals a history of hoodoo ritualism, however, and themes of aging and guilt blend with deeper plays on identity, mortality, and transformation. It's a much richer experience than it was given credit for at the time of its release by critics and has found better appreciation over the years thanks to multiple viewings. It's certainly a prime example of a movie that needs to be seen twice to fully appreciate all of the nuances.

Even though there is no resolution to what is happening or why it is happening, horror fans have enjoyed every minute of this thrill ride of mayhem and destruction. The fact that it didn't receive an R rating may seem surprising, but the language is subdued, and the violence comes close to the restricted line but never crosses it.

One of the most beloved horror comedies of all time, this monster movie began its own long-lasting franchise of sequels and prequels thanks to some memorably endearing characters and a fun take on the blockbuster Jaws formula.

Set in Tehran during the height of the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, Under the Shadow is a fascinating supernatural horror movie about a mother and daughter grappling with both an otherworldly presence and the constraints of their lives as women in a volatile time of progress and repression.

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi brought a very classic kind of horror movie to the modern multiplex with Drag Me to Hell. With the action of a Marvel movie and the suspense thrills of The Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell lives up to the director's most famous achievements.

When in doubt, it pays to go back to the classics, and Alfred Hitchcock is a great place to start. The Birds is a seminal horror movie with a somewhat plausible premise involving flocks of birds suddenly turning on humanity in a murderous rage.

It's a beautifully shot movie with an intense feeling of foreboding throughout. The premise of a cursed videotape that kills whoever watches it after 7 days is a fascinating take on a modern ghost story that continues to resonate with horror fans today even after the movie's less successful sequels.

However, there are also lots of illegitimate streaming sites that host copyrighted material without legal permission. You can watch movies for free using these websites, but you may be breaking the law as it is considered piracy in many countries.

You can download the Peacock app or stream on its website, both of which are a pleasure to use. We do wish there was a way to find all the free movies under one category. Currently you have to scan and scroll the website.

Unlike other free movie sites, The Roku Channel enforces VPN detection methods to stop streaming outside the US. However, we easily bypassed these VPN blocks using top-tier VPNs like ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Windscribe.

As graphic technology continues to improve, so too does the potential for ever-more terrifying gaming experiences. There are many games that will scare the pants off you, but if you're looking for the best, must-play horror gaming experiences, these 15 titles are essential.

The original Dead Space made a huge splash in the games industry when it was released in 2008, and is often credited with helping jump-start the horror genre comeback of the late 2000s. Set aboard a derelict mining spaceship called the Ishimura, Dead Space puts players in control of Isaac Clarke, an engineer who finds himself having to survive a mysterious alien scourge that has infected the ship and wiped out its crew. Dead Space functions like a tribute to Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror masterpiece "Alien," as Isaac is reminiscent of that film's lead character Ripley: Both characters are not soldiers and must rely on their wits and technical know-how to survive. The game also introduced an innovative dismemberment system to its combat, where enemies' limbs had to be shot off in order to take them out. The series lost its way a bit with the more action-oriented Dead Space 3, but the original game and its sequel are absolutely terrifying and helped elevate the horror game genre.

Outlast is honestly so terrifying, it makes Amnesia: The Dark Descent look like a sun-soaked vacation. Players control a journalist who sneaks into a remote psychiatric hospital to investigate reports of horrific events. The hospital is filled with all manner of disturbing imagery and enemies that will chase you down until they kill you. Outlast is further proof that first-person perspective is the most effective for horror games; as you hide under a filthy, blood-stained bed while a mad, skeletal doctor enters the room in pursuit, you'll understand why. Outlast is available for download on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Mac, but download at your own risk. If you manage to get even an hour into Outlast, you are a brave soul indeed. 2ff7e9595c
